Yes, Trust is an Issue in Desktop Search

2004/12/14

Surprise, surprise! MSN Toolbar Suite, MSN’s answer to Google Desktop, is there. Is it possible that Microsoft is re-branding it’s so called “Indexing Service”?

I can’t really test this piece of software, as something tells me that the files on my hard drive shouldn’t be MS business. I know, this is really silly, since I am using Windows XP. If I thought it would have been a good idea to make something index my disk drive I would have activated the Indexing Service. Additionally, installing beta software from Microsoft (even if you don’t have to pay for it, as you had to for the Windows 2000 Beta, back in those days!) seems really odd. Beta at Microsoft is what pre-alpha is to the rest of the world.
