Some insight to user’s expectations on search
Search is everywhere on the web, yet it’s still a difficult thing to get right. The more important it is to get some insight into what users expect from search. DonnaM is giving a brief summary of her testing Regular folks searching. She’s basically on the same page as Jakob Nielsen in his May 2005 Alertbox Mental Models For Search Are Getting Firmer. The bottom line might be: Make your search work like Google and you’re fine.
