Google Music Search

2006/03/25

Oh dear. I just noticed that Google has a specific music search. I wonder who else missed that.

I admit, it’s not an awfully useful service to me. But it could be, if it offered the following:

  • Link to Last.fm information about artist/album/song
  • Links to amazon.com page for albums/singles, plus amazon.de for my country. (They already know where I live, don’t they ;-) )
  • Links to guitar tabs.

And, of course, they would have to fix the stuff that’s there already. “Discuss that artist” is a simple link to groups.google.com searching for a “firstname lastname” combination. Try that with “Jack Johnson” and you’ll get a mix-up of boxing and music discussions.

The reason for me not noticing that feature might have been the fact that it’s not available under google.de. Until now I thought that google.de is pretty much google.com with different language preference. That’s obviously not the case.

Since I issue most of my Google searches from the Firefox (de) search field, I land on google.de most of the time. Fortunately, this can be changed by editing/replacing the search plugin.
