Screenshot Extension for Firefox

2006/04/09

This extension might be handy for those who design, develop or test web sites: The Pearl Crescent Page Saver. It allows to create a PNG screenshot of the currently opened web page in Firefox 1.5+.

Not only the visible part, but optionally the whole page can be captured. The file can be 100% size or scaled down. Keyboard shortcuts can be configured.

UPDATE: Doesn’t work with all pages. Some examples: [1], [2], [3]. Possibly, Flash is the reason. On the other hand, it works well on some Flash sites.

UPDATE 2:: Doesn’t work well with framesets. It’s not possible to capture frame contents in whole length.

I will have to give this a try on my home computer. At work, we have a bunch of copies of SnagIt (http://www.techsmith.com/snagit.asp) which is really useful.

Yeah, SnagIt is really nice, though meanwhile pretty feature-bloated. Besides that, the firefox extension has zero memory footprint and installs an all OSes that can run Firefox. So it should be definitely worth trying for a bunch of people!

What I think is really nice, too, is the fact that the Pearl Crescent Page Saver extension is really fast capturing long pages. That takes quite a moment with SnagIt.

Hi Marian

So ein Screenshot Plugin für Firefox gibt es schon seit einiger Zeit das genau dasselbe macht.

I also noticed some problems with capturing frames. But i used until now the “workaround” if have to shot such a page, i am displaying only this page not the whole frameset. Capturing this page works like a charm and i never missed anything :)

@Florian:

Nice, thanks very much.

I’ve tried Pearl and SnagIt for a long time, but I recently discovered Screengrab!. It’s killer feature is the ability to crop and save just the portion you need. It saves you the extra step of cropping in photoshop/gimp.

I think that’s what Florian is saying too, but I don’t understand. :)
